Alaska Black Bear Hunting Guides

Alaska Black Bear

Black Bear inhabit most of Alaska and are perhaps the most widely distributed big game animal in North America. They can be found in the Alaskan Arctic and live as far south as Mexico. They range from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Ocean. The largest of the species is found on the remote wilderness Gulf Coast of Alaska from Prince William Sound south to Vancouver Island. Here we guide for Record Book Black Bear that can exceed 7 foot squared and have skulls that measure and score over 20 inches. Black Bear hunting is just a lot of fun with lots of opportunities to see scores of Alaska Black Bear. We’ll teach you to judge the size of Black Bear and you’ll learn to age them and to tell the sows from the boars.

Our Coastal Black Bear hunts are conducted near Yakutat, Alaska. This is a primitive land with Glaciers that run directly into the ocean and home to the northern most primeval rain forest with huge Sitka Spruce and Hemlock that spreads a canopy over moss and exotic plants. Hundreds of inches of rain run into the creeks and rivers that support several species of Salmon that return in the fall to spawn. The meadows along the beach and streams are chocked with grass, willows, and alders. Some of the forest has been logged off which creates good Black Bear feeding areas. Grass and a multitude of berries grow abundantly in the logged off terrain.

We offer two types of hunts. Spot and stalk and sitting over bait stations. Both are very effective methods and offer exciting opportunities. Young hunters find the bait stands thrilling and especially like seeing lots of Black Bear, including sows and cubs, while they are waiting for a big boar to come in. It is especially effective in terrain with thick vegetation where other hunting methods do not work well. Bow hunters and muzzle-loaders often select this method as we are often very close when the shot is taken. Some of our hunters prefer to walk the roads that border the logged off areas or walk the beach looking for Black Bear that are feeding on grass patches. This style of Black Bear hunting is more traditional with some walking and a lot of time spent glassing the surrounding terrain from a vantage point with a good pair of binoculars. When a trophy Black Bear is located we will set up the stalk to take advantage of the wind and silently creep in to under a hundred yards. That’s where the thrill comes in! Anyone one can shoot a Black Bear from 200 yards.

We offer cabins and also set up tent camps in areas that the Black Bear migrate into to take advantage of abundant seasonal food sources. Black Bear hunting can be especially productive on Salmon streams and on the berry patches. These Alaska Black Bear hunts will be especially interesting to hunters who truly want an opportunity for a monster Black Bear to put in their trophy room. We operate on private land under a permit issued by the Alaska Mental Health Land Trust. There will be no other hunters to bother you as you hunt one of the highest concentrations of Trophy Black Bear on earth. For the time of your life, come and join us to hunt these Giant Trophy Coastal Black Bear.
